Intro
Founded in 1898 the Society originally performed a selection of Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas and Light Operas. In the early days the Society often presented two shows at once, performing alternate nights with cast members playing leading roles one night and chorus the next! The society has a virtually unbroken history of performances since its inception with the exception of a short break at the end of WW1 and a longer break during 1941 - 45
when many of the 50+ strong male chorus were actively involved in other dramatic events.
Having played for many years at the Theatre Royal and Hippodrome, the Society moved to a temporary home at the ABC cinema before moving to the Gracie Fields Theatre in 1977.
The Society is always pleased to welcome new members, both Playing and Non-playing. We can find a job for everyone!
