Intro
The Play Resource Centre, part of Rochdale Children's Services, is situated on the Globe Park Estate on Mossbridge Road, off Kingsway. Our aim is to support the activities of a range of groups. Whether you just require paper and paints or need to find out about the Chinese New Year we are always here to help. The following information will explain in more detail what we provide. Our Aims
Our aim is to support and enhance Community groups activities by the provision of:
- Cheap and plentiful non-toxic scrap
- Low cost art and craft materials
- A range of larger and more expensive equipment available for loan
- Worksheets and information material relating to play
Scrap, as we call it, is waste materials donated by industry and commerce, not only from firms within the Rochdale Borough, but, as we are part of a large Resource Network, materials are gained from all over the country. We have an array of ever changing materials which, with imagination (and children have plenty of that), can be transformed into weird and wonderful finished products.
Art & Craft Materials
Our selection ranges from the usual paint, paper and pencils to the more unusual coloured sand, face paints and large foam dice. The cost of these materials are kept as low as possible to make your limited resources stretch further.
Loan Equipment
For a small charge per item, we have a range of equipment which is available for loan. Play Equipment includes bouncy castles (suitable for both indoor and outdoor use), large soft play shapes and ball pools. For older children we have badge making machines, disco deck, parachutes and giant inflatable fun balls.
Our Craft Selection comprises of equipment and materials (available on a sale or return basis) for candle making, enamelling, batik work, pottery and pyrography.
Children's Play Area
For stress free shopping, the Resource Centre now provides a small children's Play Area.
No more hassles from bored children, the play area is there to keep your children occupied whilst you go about the important business of shopping!. Of course the play area is not Just for children, there are comfortable chairs for any tired adults, or adults who just have the sudden desire to relive a moment of childhood!
The play area is opposite the staff desk, and contains plenty of safe and stimulating toys to keep the youngsters happy.
Please note that the play area is unsupervised and, therefore, your children are your responsibility.
Information
We have a growing library of books and information relating to Children's ploy which can be loaned free of charge. If you want to know how to construct a mini kite using only a sheet of paper or a talking puppet from kitchen roll centres, there are free worksheets available covering these and many more ideas.
Membership
We have members representing a wide range of groups, from schools, churches and playgroups to youth clubs, uniformed groups and community artists. Groups outside the Borough boundaries are also welcome to join. Membership costs £7 or £15 per year dependent on the type of group.
