Safer Communities - Now on TV
Date published: 10/08/2004
A new television station launches in Rochdale this week. Its message is all about keeping safe and secure in the borough.
The first network of its type in Greater Manchester, Safer Communities Television will broadcast a host of community safety messages at selected sites across the borough. The network can provide information on keeping your home secure, staying safe when out and about.
Safer Communities TV can also broadcast local information, news, weather and sport as well as publicising crime reduction initiatives.
Another advantage is if an emergency response is required; for instance in the event of a child going missing. Vital information can be broadcast quickly across a town centre.
Rochdale Safer Communities Partnership is launching the network in the Motorama Lounge at Spotland Stadium at 12.30pm on Thursday 12 August. Roger Ellis, Chair of the Safer Communities Partnership, will switch on the network across the borough.
In a first phase, twelve screens will be broadcasting at various venues. In the future it is hoped to increase the number of locations available. The first locations will be:
- Hopwood Hall College Library (Rochdale Campus)
- McDonald's, Middleton
- Milnrow Village Practice, Newhey Road, Milnrow
- Rochdale Customer Services Centre, Floor 2, Municipal Offices
- Rochdale Post Office
- Hollingworth Lake Visitors Centre
- Asda Supermarket, Rochdale
- Rochdale Infirmary Accident & Emergency
- McDonald's, Kingsway
- Heywood Customer Services Centre, Heywood
