Safeguard your family and home at flood awareness event
Date published: 12/06/2008
Rochdale Council, in partnership with the Environment Agency, is running a Flood Awareness Event at Rochdale Town Hall on 19 June.
Residents will be able to find out if their home is at risk of flooding from rivers and gain useful help and advice on what they can do before a flood to help reduce the effects.
Eligible residents will also be able to sign up to the Environment Agency’s Floodline Warnings Direct service, which provides warnings via phone, email or text message when flooding has been predicted - giving warnings well in advance so people can prepare.
Representatives from Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, the council’s Highways Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue, will be on hand to give advice and discuss the steps which can be taken to minimise the effects of flooding.
Kate Fahy, Resilience Officer at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “News of flooding is increasingly hitting the headlines, and many areas, including this borough, have experienced extensive flooding which has devastated many people’s homes and livelihoods.
“We urge residents to come along to the flood awareness event as they will find out whether their homes are at risk of flooding. If they are, experts will tell them what they can do to protect themselves and their homes, and therefore get some peace of mind.”
The event will take place from 9.30am until 2.30pm at Rochdale Town Hall car park on 19 June.
