Council Tax by Direct Debit – the easy way to pay
Date published: 14/02/2007
Save time, save money – that’s the message from Rochdale Council as it launches a campaign to encourage more people to pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit.
Leaflets have been sent to people across the Borough who currently pay their bills by cheque or cash in the hope that they’ll sign up and make collection more efficient.
Direct Debit is the cheapest and most effective way for the Council to collect Council Tax.
Paying this way helps the Council to reduce administrative costs so more money can be spent on improving services and facilities - and in keeping Council Tax charges as low as possible.
Councillor William Hobhouse, the Cabinet member for finance, said: "44,000 people in the Borough already pay by Direct Debit. They all know it’s the easiest and safest way to pay and I’d encourage everyone to do the same. It couldn’t be simpler – just phone the Council on 0845 121 2970 and have your bank account details ready or fill in one simple form and it’s done. No hassle, no fuss and 100 per cent secure."
Direct Debit payments are spread over 10 months. Direct Debit is the only method of payment that offers a choice of dates – 1st, 9th, 15th, 19th or 25th of each month.
To set up a Direct Debit today, download a form from the Council’s website – www.rochdale.gov.uk and click on Council Tax from the popular pages menu, call us on 0845 121 2970 or pop in to any Council office and ask for a form.
