Christmas public transport info just a call or click away

Date published: 12/12/2005

Passengers are being encouraged to find out how their bus, train or tram services are running over the festive period by calling the public transport Traveline on 0870 608 2608 or by visiting www.gmpte.com/christmas

Both the website and Traveline staff are now providing details on the level of public transport services people can expect between Christmas Eve and 2 January.

Welcoming the information service, Councillor Roger Jones, Chair of Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority, said: "With the number of bus companies operating in Greater Manchester co-ordinating information is always a challenge, so I am pleased that we are in place to provide people with the relevant information with a full two weeks to go.
"My thanks must go to all those who worked especially hard to get it ready for passengers as soon as possible - I'm sure that people will find it invaluable as they plan how to get about during the festive season.

"As usual, there will be a reduced level of public transport services, but it is pleasing to see that each year more operators are providing services for people to travel around at this important time of year. As well as allowing people to leave the car at home, we must remember that there are still many people who rely solely on public transport to visit friends and family, or even to get to work over Christmas.

A general 'Christmas Times' leaflet is also be available in all GMPTE Travelshops from this week.
