Move the cars plea to assist safer streets scheme
Date published: 07/12/2005
A road safety scheme aimed at reducing traffic speeds and improving pedestrian safety is underway in the Milkstone and Deeplish areas of Rochdale.
And residents will be asked to help the work go smoothly by moving their cars from certain streets when work is carried out.
More than 40 streets in an area bounded by Manchester Road, Tweedale Street, Durham Street, Deeplish Road, New Barn Lane and Ashfield Road will be covered by the scheme.
A 20-mph limit will be in force throughout the area. To enforce the limit, Rochdale Council is building traffic calming measures throughout the area, to encourage drivers to keep to the limit.
In all 12 flat top road humps, 63 round top road humps and ten sets of speed cushions will be installed.
Some of the works will need to be done with the roads closed, which will involve locally-signed diversions. The scheme is expected to take 12 weeks to complete.
The contractor will write to residents on particular streets just before works begin to let them know when vehicles need to be removed.
