The Water Walk Goes On

Date published: 16/08/2005

Rochdale Round Table are organising and managing what used to be a Water-Aid fundraising event, to raise money for the Springhill Hospice and The Floyd l unit at Birch Hill.

This year the Water Walk will be on Sunday 9th October 2005.  It is the twelfth Charity Walk starting from Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club.  As in past years, the walks have been of approximately 4 miles and 14 miles, both of which will include part of the Rochdale Way.

All sponsorship money goes to deserving causes and, following the walk in 2003, it was discovered that £60,000 has been donated over the last decade to various charities.

Tim Booth from Rochdale Round Table said: “We hope that people will be able to join us again and perhaps persuade some of their friends to walk.  This is a wonderful opportunity  to raise funds for your own charity and have an enjoyable day out into the bargain.  Our own charities this year will be the Rochdale Hospice and The Floyd Unit – specialist neurosurgical unit at Birch Hill.”

Water walking began with the African Charity, Water Aid, in support of Rochdale Rotary, where up to 500 eager locals would team up to walk around Rochdale reservoirs to raise money.
