Pedal Power for Little Robyn

Police officers in Rochdale are getting on their bikes to raise money for the Robyn Brooks Appeal, and have taken a week’s holiday from work so that they can raise as much money as possible during the event.

Detective Constable Garry Gregory is organising the trip for himself and 18 of his colleagues to cycle about 400 miles from Littleborough Police Station to Lands End, which will take place from 9.00am on Monday 6 June.

They are all in training for the trip which starts 6th June and will raise money for the Robyn Brooks Appeal, along with a small percentage also going to Christies Hospital.

DC Gregory has organised a similar trip before in aid of the Pendlebury Children’s Hospital, and says that this is his first chance to bring such an event to Rochdale. He said: “It’s great to be able to do this in Rochdale.  I’m really pleased with the response I’ve had from the other officers, and we’re all really looking forward to the trip.”

He added. “We’ve started training already with 20 mile bike rides and I cycle to work at Littleborough police station from Yorkshire once a week.” DC Gregory is hoping to make £250 in his own sponsors, and up to £1500 in total.

Rochdale girl Robyn died in March of Neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer, aged just 8 years old. Her family are now trying to raise money for research into the disease so other children won’t have to suffer in the same way she did.

Brian Brooks, uncle of Robyn Brooks said: “The Robyn Brooks Appeal is a really good cause and I'm really impressed the family are carrying on raising money for other children after Robyn passed away. Hopefully the money we raise will be a step towards finding a cure for Neuroblastoma.”
