Youngsters from Littleborough junior football team the Fothergill Falcons enjoyed their end of season awards presentation on Sunday (22 June) after a successful season.

Last week the under 10's team won a tournament at Bowlee and they celebrated in style at their awards ceremony.

On the night Councillor Jean Ashworth, whose grandson plays for the team, added another award to a haul that recently included the 'Rochdale Online Councillor Diary of the Year'. Councillor Ashworth received the award from the Falcons in recognition of the support she has given to the team throughout the year.

Councillor Ashworth said: "It was a fantastic event to see the awards being presented to all the players for their hard work throughout the year, they work so well together.

"I have a lot of admiration for the managers and committee as it is people like this who make my role as a Councillor a lot easier by providing these youngters with something to do that they enjoy.

"I was really shocked in recieving an award for supporting this club but was really proud to recieve it."

The team has gone from strength to strength since it was formed and this culminated in victory for the under-10s in the end of season tournament last week.

The youngsters battled through the group stage to meet with Springhead in the quarter-finals. A Jordan Messer goal saw them through to the next round where two superb team goals put them through to the final. A tense final followed but the Falcons clinched the title, winning by the odd goal against Moston Valley Reds.
