Rochdale Swarm face tough challenge

Date published: 21/08/2008

The final away trip of the season sees the Rochdale Swarm take on the Tag Merit Leagues runaway leaders the York Crusaders. Despite having no game last week as their opponents Wakefield cried off the Swarm are in buoyant mood as they face their sternest task of the season.

The York side who are undefeated since their first game of the season are hot favourites to take the inaugural Tag Merit League title. But the Swarm are determined to end their travels in style and are taking a squad of over twenty players to the New Earswick Sports Ground for Sunday mornings fixture.

Swarm coach David Ramsbottom says "Sundays fixture is about performance, this is our first season with most of our players never having played Rugby of any sort before. York will provide us with a benchmark to quantify our progress, we hope this game will show just how far we have come."

Rochdale Swarm Chairman Mark Wynn was also in upbeat mood as he revealed the Swarm had picked up another sponsor in David Speed of speedys-signs.com. "Its been a fantastic year for the Swarm and with all the negative press the town gets its good to be able to shout about a Rochdale success story. Its also great that people like David from speedys-signs can see what we have achieved and are willing to support us. Sunday will see us take over 20 players to York, our largest ever playing pool for an away game and after our match we are all going on to support the Hornets in their push for the play offs against the York City Knights."
