Police warning as burglaries increase
Date published: 17/06/2008
Rochdale police are warning residents to keep the properties secure following a number of burglaries in the town
Police say 26 per cent of burglaries in the town over the past four weeks have been as a result of people leaving doors and windows open or unlocked.
Crime Reduction Advisor for Rochdale, Brian Farr, said: “People are more inclined to leave doors and windows open or unlocked when the weather gets warmer, but research shows that one in three burglaries happen as a result of this.
“To deter burglars, we recommend that all vulnerable doors and windows are kept locked, and those who live in apartments should remember that living above the ground floor does not make you immune to burglars.”
In a bid to tackle the problem, police community support officers will be patrolling communities actively looking for insecurities and posting warning cards through people’s doors.
Posters highlighting the dangers of leaving homes insecure will also be put up in hotspot areas.
