Post Office closure list revealed

The seven Rochdale branches of the Post Office set to close as part of Government plans have been revealed.

The post offices due to be shut down are Bowness Road PO, Middleton; Hopwood PO, Manchester Road, Heywood; Oulder Hill PO, Bury Road, Rochdale; Buersil PO, Oldham Road, Buersil Head; Caldermoor PO, Shore Road, Littleborough; Smithy Bridge PO, Smithy Bridge Road, Littleborough; Spotland Road PO, Spotland Road.

Rochdale MP Paul Rowen has pledged to do all he can to prevent the closures after thousands of Rochdale residents signed petitions of complaint over the potential shut downs. Mr Rowen said: "We have put a massive amount of pressure on the Government to stop their closure programme. We have already collected more than 16,000 signatures and more are pouring in every day.

“The closures will be devastating for communities like Littleborough, Balderstone and Spotland. We will be doing everything we can to save them.”

Mr Rowen has joined forces with his three fellow Lib Dem MPs in Greater Manchester – John Leech MP (Manchester Withington), Mark Hunter (Cheadle) and Andrew Stunell (Hazel Grove) - to launch a co-ordinated campaign to save Post Offices.

Mr Rowen continued: “The whole network in Greater Manchester is set to be ravaged and we have launched a campaign to save every one of them. I voted in Parliament to reverse the Post Office closure plans but we were beaten by Labour MPs. Everyone should sign up to the campaign to save our Post Offices.”
