Lead thieves strike at thirty houses!

Date published: 30/12/2007

Lead thieves have been busy over the Christmas holiday period stealing the lead off around thirty houses in the Sedgley, Weston and Buersil Avenue areas of Balderstone. The thieves have been operating in the early hours of the morning over several days in an area of predominately 1930's houses which feature lead covered flat roofed porches.

Local resident, and former councillor, Ian Duckworth explained: "I was alerted when I found my phone wire had been cut and later discovered that the lead off the top of my porch had been stolen. Checking round the area I found at least thirty other houses had had their lead stolen too.

"The thieves must be very quiet as I have two very alert dogs and they heard nothing.

"I hope Rochdale Online can alert other home owners in similar properties so they can be aware of this danger."
