Cars stolen in insurance company defraud
Date published: 13/05/2008
Police have released a picture of a man believed to be responsible for defrauding an accident claim company.
Officers in Rochdale are investigating five bogus motor insurance claims between 8 August 2006 and 15 November 2007, which were made to a company called Direct Accident Management.
In each case the claimant has falsely provided personal details including names, addresses, and telephone numbers of people involved in accidents in order obtain courtesy cars.
The courtesy cars have never been returned.
A photograph released today, Tuesday 13 May 2008, shows one of the men responsible for one of the claims.
Police Constable Charles Stewart from Rochdale police station said: "These claims have been accepted by the company in good faith but have proved to be completely false.
"Those people responsible have deliberately defrauded the company and have effectively stolen a number of expensive cars.
"I would appeal to anyone who knows anything about the scam, or who can identify the person in the picture to come forward."
Anyone with any information is asked to call Rochdale police station on 0161 856 8443 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
