Police arrest 45 in Rochdale crime blitz

Date published: 28/04/2008

Forty-five people have been arrested across Rochdale after a wide-ranging crackdown on crime in the borough.

The arrests were made during a two-day blitz on Thursday 24 and Friday 25 April, with suspected offences ranging from burglary, robbery and violent disorder to possession of Class A drugs, child cruelty and failing to appear in court.

As part of Operation Stormont, local officers acted on intelligence to target known offenders.

High visibility patrols were also carried out in hotspot areas after the crackdown to provide extra reassurance to communities.

Inspector David Shepherd of GMP’s Rochdale Division said: “We committed a lot of resources to this operation, and are pleased with the number of arrests made. I would also urge people across the borough to contact us about crimes or to report those involved, as information submitted can, in many cases, lead to arrests and offenders being taken off the streets.”
