Sport Relief Mile at Milnrow Cricket Club

More than sixty people attended Milnrow Cricket Club's ‘Sport Relief Mile’ event on Sunday 16 March, pledging over £600 to the charity. Local people of all ages came along to show their support of the wonderful work undertaken by the various projects funded through 'Sport Relief'.

Debbie Abrahams, who organised the event, said: "The work these projects do in the UK and across the world's poorest countries makes such a huge difference to the people they care for, for example children who have been orphaned, are homeless or live in poverty. And so many people wanted to help them by making a contribution no matter how small. One Grandmother told me her grandchildren had given their pocket money to sponsor her and many of the children who came along had been sponsored by their families and friends.

"It was a great turnout in spite of the very blustery weather conditions. Participants ranged from babes in arms to septuagenarians! But everyone seemed to have a really good time whether they had decided to walk or run the four laps around the cricket field. Raising money for good causes while getting fit and having fun - what could be better! A huge thanks to Milnrow Cricket Club for agreeing to let us use the cricket field, to all the helpers on the day and to everyone who came along to support Sport Relief."
