Date published: 17/03/2008

Police in Rochdale are asking the public to be vigilant after a man has approached children at a primary school on several occasions.

Officers want to stress that there is no need to panic, but felt the need to alert the public to these incidents.

In the last three weeks a white man has approached young girls attending St James Primary School in Wardle four times.

Each time, the man has either asked for directions to the school or questioned the child on other things.

The man is described as being between 40 and 60 years old, about 5ft 10in tall and possibly has facial hair.

He drives a silver hatchback car, which has been described as either a Ford or a Vauxhall.

Inspector Lin Houldershaw said: "We are keen to find this man because the number of times this has happened is causing us concern.

"We have extra police patrols in the area, and want to reassure people that there is absolutely no need to panic, but if you think you have seen this man, or know who he is, please get in touch."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 8757 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, 0800 555 111.
