The entire internal telephone network for the Greater Manchester Police has failed. There is a limited service available on 0161 872 5050 and the 999 service is intermittent. There is no access to any GMP extensions.

With immediate effect the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have opened all police stations 24 hours per day and extra patrols will be on the streets.

The incident could last up to 36 hours and GMP have implemented their major incident procedures and incident command structure. 

Officers will be posted at council premises, such as civic buildings or libraries during the period they are open.
