Corsican Trek hopes to help Parkinsons Disease sufferers in Rochdale

Two local men, Alastair Scott and Barry Dean, along with four other friends, are to trek half way across the mountainous GR 20 route in Corsica.  The challenging walk will take about a week, and they will be camping and staying in mountain huts en route.

Alastair and Barry see the walk as an opportunity to raise funds for the Parkinsons Disease Society.

"People with Parkinson Disease in Rochdale are at a disadvantage compared with some other towns in the region" says Alastair. "We do not have either a Parkinsons Disease Nurse or a Parkinsons Disease Society Community Support Worker to help  resolve the practical and the emotional problems which hit you when you are diagnosed with the illness".

So far, the Rochdale Branch of the Society has raised over £11,000, but they need to raise a total of £20,000 to fund a Community Support Worker.

To help achieve this target, the walkers have set up a web page to raise sponsorship for the walk.
