Springhill High School GCSE Awards Evening

Ex pupils, parents and staff packed the hall at Springhill High School on Wednesday 22 November for the 'Year of 2006' GCSE Awards Evening. 175 students in the year group celebrated their achievements, from classroom to sports field, in the arts and for the benefit of the whole community.

The proceedings began with a welcome from the Deputy Headteacher Steve Parratt and a short address from the Head of Year Dave McDonough, and the former Head of Year, Trish Roberts, who had travelled back from Turkey specially for the event.

Guest speaker for the evening was the founder of Rochdale Online, Malcolm Journeaux, who gave an interesting and inspiring speech about Rochdale Online and his own personal fight against adversity and advised those listening to always "give their best and make the best of what they've got". A very attentive audience gave him a hearty cheer.

The awards were presented to students by each form tutor:

• Form 11S - Mr M Ali
• Form 11P - Ms E Johnson
• Form 11R - Mr D O'Reilly
• Form 11N - Mr P Smith
• Form 11G - Ms K Obermann
• Form 11H - Mr J McCauley

The award ceremony was closed with a rousing speech from the Chairman of Governers Mr Tariq Khan, who was clearly a very proud man when explaining that the achievements of the 'Year of 2006' were the best ever for Springhill High School.
