Residents urged to turn clocks back on crime

Date article online: 26/10/2006

The clocks go back this weekend and police officers in Rochdale are urging local residents to help beat burglars by taking simple steps to safeguard their homes.

Officers are asking members of the public to go ALL out to beat thieves this autumn by remembering Alarms, Locks and Lights.  This simple three-point message is a reminder to put the Alarm on, Lock all doors and windows and leave a Light on when leaving your home empty.

Rochdale police warn that there is usually an increase in break-ins at this time of the year as the evenings become darker.

Leaflets displaying the ALL message are being given out in public places to help raise awareness amongst homeowners so they do not fall victim to crime.

Brian Farr, Crime Reduction Advisor from Rochdale Police said: "We have worked hard over the last year to make people in Rochdale aware of how important it is to secure their homes against burglars.  As the clocks go back, evenings become darker and create ideal opportunities for thieves.  By remembering to apply the simple ALL out message every time you leave your property, you will make it less attractive as a target for burglars."
