GMP Race and Diversity Monitoring Report published

Date published: 30/11/2006

Greater Manchester Police has published its latest Race and Diversity Monitoring Report, showing that the Force continues to make great strides in its commitment to respecting race and diversity.

The report, which annually provides monitoring information on GMP’s service delivery and employment practices has been developed further this year with the inclusion of local and strategic examples of good practice.  Each police division now has their own dedicated pages, which highlight the good work that is taking place in that area and includes a summary of local data.

Some of the main developments this year, April 2005 to March 2006, include: the implementation of Stop and Account, the establishment of a strategic Confidence and Equalities Board under the leadership of the Deputy Chief Constable and the creation of local Diversity Action Groups (DAGs) and local Independent Advisory Groups (IAGs).  Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabularies (HMIC) has also identified the progress GMP has made and has recognised numerous strengths in the Force’s approach to confidence, equality and diversity.

Assistant Chief Constable Rob Taylor, responsible for Criminal Justice and Diversity said: "The main reason for issuing this report is to highlight that we are committed to being open about recognising and robustly tackling any diversity issues.  The report highlights a lot of good practice both on divisions and at a strategic level, however we also recognise there are issues that need to be tackled.  We are always keen to explore the facts further and lead the way in ensuring that policing across Greater Manchester is done fairly and equitably.

"The Force has already achieved a great deal in terms of tackling race and diversity issues and by working with key members of the community we will continue to improve how we deliver our services and deal with our staff."
