Local vocal talent makes competition final
Date published: 06/12/2006
Talented Rochdale vocalist Sarah-Jane Johnson has made the final of a competition that could see her win a trip to New York plus £1000. Just as alluring for Johnson is the knowledge that the event will be covered by radio station, Key 103.
Johnson made the final by winning a heat singing 'Son of a Preacher Man' at the pub - the White Horse in Eccles - of Coronation Street star Beverley Callard (Liz McDonald).
Ms Johnson is a semi-professional singer on the North-West pubs and clubs circuit, she said: "My boyfriend entered me for the competition and until I arrived I hadn't realised what a big event it was. I didn't expect to get to the final, but I was thrilled to do so and especially as one of the judges said he had been in the music business 15 years and had never heard anyone sing as pitch perfect."
The final is at the White Horse in Eccles on 15 December.
