Beech House School Carol Competition
Date published: 08/12/2006
Children from Beech House School took part in a Christmas Carol Contest at the Salvation Army Citadel in the Town Centre this week.
Six groups of children had composed carols and these were performed in front of parents and a panel of judges.
The Judges were:
- Alison Unwin - Chairwoman PTA
- Councillor Angela Coric
- Malcolm Journeaux - Owner of Rochdale Online
- Margaret White - Deputy Head
- Sue Haigh - Lower Prep
- Gabriel Bauer - Maths amp; IT
The standard of entries was high and the judges faced a difficult decision; the scoring was very close. A Carol entitled 'A bright new day has dawned' was eventually chosen as the winner.
Chairwoman of the judging panel Alison Unwin said: "All the carols were very good and the children are to be congratulated on their fine efforts. The winning carol was chosen because lyrically it told the Christmas story well, it had a very jaunty feel to it and was easy for the children to sing."
The composers of the winning entry were:
- Sophia Meadowcroft
- Heather Gee
- Lydia Nightingale
- Megan Millington
