People urged to get wise and immobilise
Date article online: 27/12/2006
Police are urging people to get wise and immobilise this week by making sure they register their new Christmas presents on immobilise.com.
Immobilise is a free service that allows people to record the details for free of all their valuable items such as televisions, mobile phones, bikes, computer games, DVDs and MP3’s, in fact anything with a serial number.
It is the largest service of its type with over 15 million registered users, 22 million items registered and over 16 million stolen items recovered.
If the property is ever lost, stolen or even destroyed in a fire and it registered on Immobilise, then people will have a stored list of all their valuable possessions, making it easier, to make insurance claims and report it to the police.
Furthermore, via a unique Immobilise account, people can flag any registered item as lost or stolen and this then appears on the UK National Police Stolen Property Database allowing police to identify rightful owners and return their property to them.
A GMP spokesperson said: "Registering with Immobilise is free, quick and easy and can help the police to identify when offenders are in possession of stolen goods. We want to encourage everyone to register their valuable property by logging on to the website at www.immobilise.com. If valuables aren't registered and we are unable to find the rightful owners, they may eventually have to be destroyed."
