Bamford resident calls for return of popular show
Date published: 06/02/2007
Bamford Resident Andrew Abbott is leading the calls to bring back the popular "Norden and Bamford Show’ He has already spoken to a number of Bamford and Norden residents and will be liaising with local residents, local farmers, Councillors and Council Officers to look at some of the practicalities involved in bringing back the event.
He said: "The old agricultural show used to be hugely popular in Norden and Bamford. I think it is a sign of the times that it fizzled out but in discussion with a number of local residents I think it can be a goer. There was always a great atmosphere at the event where the community used to come together and celebrate our area. I will be writing to local farmers and keen gardeners to get them on board. As a youngster in Bamford, I always looked forward to this event, in the early 70’s this was something that the whole community worked together to organise.
"I have lived in Bamford all my life and this is a real opportunity to celebrate in the locality things that we are rightly proud of. I am proud to have been born in this area and I am determined give something back. Of course, the world has changed since the original but it seems right to promote our rich heritage in Bamford and Norden. I see this as an opportunity to promote Agriculture, Horticulture and the Countryside through this show and also educate our young people and teach them to respect and enjoy our environment."
