Weekend road closures due to work on Elizabethan Way

Date published: 27/02/2007

Works to the bridge over the railway on Elizabethan Way started in early January 2007 and nearby residents should note that during the next three weeks there will be increased activity on the bridge at night.  This activity will also continue for the next six weeks on a Saturday night/Sunday Morning.  On these Saturday night/Sunday morning periods Elizabethan Way will be closed to traffic and a diversion route sign posted.

The work being undertaken cannot be performed during the day, as the works are over or directly adjacent to the railway line.  Network Rail requires this work to be done at night when the trains are not running.

Residents may notice some additional noise, which is unavoidable, but the contractors have promised every effort will be made to keep any noise to a lower level as possible.

Explaining the need for the work a spokesman said: "It is important that the works are undertaken and it is inevitable that there will be some disturbance during this work.  We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience during this period and to reassure you that every effort will be made to keep any noise and disruption to a minimum."
