Vital repairs to water main - John Street to close

Date published: 28/02/2007

A major water main that burst three times in two years and brought misery to drivers using John Street and to neighbouring businesses, is to be replaced.

The work will be carried out during March and although it will mean that part of John Street will have to close, it should put an end to the sudden collapses that brought delays during the last two separate incidents in January.

Temporary road closures and diversions will mean that drivers using Smith Street won't be able to turn right into Molseworth Street, and won't be able to go through the junction into Entwisle Road.

Drivers using John Street won't be able to turn right into Smith Street and they won't be able to make U-turns on Molesworth Street at its Water Street junction.

Although a formal closure notice for John Street runs from 5-31 March, work is not expected to take that long and it is hoped that the road will reopen in mid-March.
