Air Ambulance rescues boy from Newhey Quarry
The North West Air Ambulance (NWAA) was called out to an incident at Newhey Quarry on Saturday 31 March. A 15-year-old boy was on a push bike with friends in the disused quarry when he fell off suffering a suspected fractured leg. Other emergency services at the scene with the NWAA were the Police, Greater Manchester land ambulance and MRT.
The boy was administered pain relief and immobilised spinally then flown to North Manchester General Hospital by the NWAA in just 4 minutes, a journey that could have taken 20 minutes by land.
The North West Air Ambulance is a registered charity, receiving no mainstream funding yet it costs £1.9 million a year to maintain this vital life saving service. For the patient, the NWAA is the fastest emergency service. Donations can be made by ringing 0800 587 4570, via the NWAA web site www.northwestairambulance.co.uk or mailing cheques FREEPOST North West Air Ambulance.
