Residents return to homes following evacuation in Heywood
Date published: 12/04/2007
Most of the residents asked to leave their houses following the discovery of an oxy-acetelyne canister in Heywood have returned to their homes.
Around 400 homes were evacuated in a number of streets near to a mill on Bury Road/Moor Street after a fire broke out in the early hours of yesterday, Wednesday 11 April 2007.
A 200 metre evacuation zone was put in place by the fire brigade and a number of local roads were closed while firefighters dampened down the cylinder.
Most of the streets within the cordon were re-opened yesterday afternoon, however a cordon remains in place around six houses on Rosehill Street.
This was expected to be lifted this morning (Thursday 12 April).
