Police officer injured in road traffic collision

A police officer was injured as he tried to stop a car in Rochdale last night, Tuesday 8 May 2007.
At around 10:45pm the officer, who was driving a fully liveried police car, attempted to stop a T-registered Rover 420 for a traffic offence, at the junction of Milnrow Road and Molesworth Street. The officer put on his full emergency equipment, but the Rover accelerated away at speed.
The police officer pursued the car onto Rochdale Road, but lost control of his police vehicle as he went over a hump back bridge. The officer was then in collision with fencing at the back of houses on Juniper Drive.
The officer was taken to Rochdale Infirmary for treatment to minor head injuries and was later released. Extensive damage was caused to the police car.
