Hazardous substance lorry in collision on M62

Date published: 14/05/2007

At around 9.45am Monday 14 May 2007, motorway police were called to the westbound carriageway of the M62 following reports of a road traffic collision.

A Volvo HGV oil tanker containing a hazardous substance and a Leyland Daf flatbed lorry had collided between junctions 20 and 21.

Two lanes of the westbound carriageway were closed while the fire brigade examined the HGV. The HGV was found to be safe and was removed from the side of the motorway.

At around 10.45am, the second lane was re-opened, leaving just one lane closed. Traffic soon began flowing freely, although there was for a time the inevitable congestion backing up into West Yorkshire.
