Rochdale Music Service groups achieve national recognition

The Rochdale Music Service has had eight performance groups invited to the national finals of 'Music for Youth' to be held in Birmingham in July.

Over 10,000 young musicians, singers and dancers, aged from four to twenty-one years old from across the country, will fill the concert halls in the centre of Birmingham for six whole days in July 2007, performing in the world’s largest children’s music festival.

The Music Service groups are:

  • The Rochdale Borough Youth Brass Band
  • The Rochdale Borough Youth Wind Band
  • The Rochdale Youth Singers
  • The Rochdale Junior Brass Band
  • The Rochdale Girls Choir
  • Just Four
  • Rochdale Schools' Concert Orchestra
  • Big Bang Theory

The music charity 'Music for Youth' is joining forces with the City of Birmingham Council, Symphony Hall, Birmingham, Birmingham Conservatoire and the CBSO Centre to celebrate the the world-acclaimed National Festival of Music for Youth.

From 9 - 14 July 2007, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Adrian Boult Hall, the concert hall of Birmingham Conservatoire, and the CBSO Centre will ring to the glorious sound of music, when the National Festival of Music for Youth comes to the heart of England.

Young musicians from across the country will have the chance to showcase their talent in one of the most musically alive cities in the world. This unrivalled celebration demonstrates how Britain leads the world in music education.

Each group performing at the Festival receives a certificate, as well as feedback on its performance. After the Festival, thirty groups will be invited to perform at the Schools Prom concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, London, in November 2005.
