Crime reduction roadshows in Heywood and Middleton

Date published: 25/05/2007

Residents  in  Heywood  and Middleton are  being  encouraged  to attend crime reduction roadshows at Heywood (Tuesday 5 June from 7pm to 9pm) and Middleton (Thursday 31 May from 7pm to 9pm) Civic Centres.

The  events are two of four roadshows being run as part of the new "Get It Right’  campaign,  which  will  show a variety of filmed crime-scenarios at venues around Rochdale over the next two weeks.

The  scenarios,  which  illustrate how to avoid becoming a victim of crime, involve  police community support officers (PCSOs), and address issues such as burglary, robbery and vehicle crime.

Each  one  is  divided  into  two  parts  –  the first part shows PCSOs not securing  their homes and vehicles properly, or not being safety conscious, and  the  second  part shows them "getting it right’ when it comes to crime
prevention.

Community  Safety  Officers  and  PCSOs  will  be  on  hand  to explain the scenarios, and officers from Rochdale’s victim support unit will be handing out advice leaflets.

Crime  Reduction  Adviser  for  Rochdale Police, Brian Farr, said: "Through this  roadshow  we  aim  to develop people’s sense of security and personal safety.   We  have  displayed  posters advertising the event, and I hope as many  people as possible will come along, because advice they pick up could help prevent them from becoming a victim of crime."

Lee  Durrant,  Community  Safety  Operations Manager, added: "We are hoping this  new  face-to-face  approach  will get the message across about how to stay  safe  in  your  home and on the streets.  The roadshow will provide a real  opportunity  for us to speak to our communities, and work together to reduce crime as well as the fear of crime."

The  "Get  It  Right’  campaign  is  being  run by Rochdale Police and RMBC Community Safety Service.
