Mail strike — cheques will go to offices

Royal Mail is warning some of its customers that their payments could be affected by the latest strike action by staff.

Although the majority of customers receive their payments directly into a bank or building society account, some still receive a cheque in the post.

During the industrial action, cheques will be sent by courier to the post office nearest to the customer’s home address.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: "These arrangements are a temporary measure designed to protect our customers from the potential impact of the dispute.

"When the strike has finished, cheques will be sent as normal."

The planned 24-hour walk-outs are set to begin at noon tomorrow and again on Saturday.

Another two have been scheduled to start at 3am on Monday, and on Wednesday, October 10.

Weekly strike action has been planned from Monday, October 15, until the dispute is resolved.

Customers can find out which post office their cheque has been sent to by calling 0845-600 4271.
