Fothergill Falcons kitted out the Pennine way!
Date article online: 10/11/2007
Councillor Jean Ashworth presented Fothergill Falcons with a new football strip courtesy of the Pennines Township Fund.
Following the presentation, Councillor Ashworth joined the young players, managers, parents and friends for a spot of fund raising, a sponsored walk round Hollingworth Lake on a bitterly cold day! Councillor Ashworth cheerfully admitted to completing one lap and then sitting in the warmth and comfort of The Beech whilst others set off for more laps, one manager, Christopher Fellows managing four laps of the Lake.
The walk over, there was more fun as a football quiz in The Beech was the next fund raiser, and with football the subject Councillor Ashworth was somewhat out of her depth!
Speaking after the day’s events, Councillor Ashworth said: "Needless to say I was useless at the quiz, but we had a good laugh at some of the answers - probably mainly mine!"
She went on to praise Barclay, Dawn and Christopher Fellows who she said: "deserve a lot of credit and thanks for taking these youngsters off our streets every weekend; they train them every Saturday morning and go of to play matches every Sunday morning in all areas. Without people like these many of our youngsters would never get the chance to follow a dream, which this family has done for over three years.
"They have three teams: U10s, U11s and U13s - that's a lot of young ones in this area, which is part of why it made me proud today to present their new away kit.
"These are the people who keep our community spirit going, and without the thanks they truly deserve."
