New name for local Primary Care Trust

From 1 September, 2008, Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Primary Care Trust will adopt the brand name NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale. The PCT say the new name will help to position the organisation as the local leader of the NHS, supporting its strategy to improve the health and well-being of every person living within the Rochdale Borough - however the move had been branded a waste of money by Paul Rowen MP. 

Trevor Purt, chief executive of NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale said: “As NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale we will continue to drive and develop local health services now and for the future. We are working to provide healthcare where and when it is needed, in high quality facilities, run by qualified and skilled professionals.

“In what is the 60th Anniversary of the NHS, we face exciting and challenging times. We hope that you will continue to support us in improving the health and well-being of the local population and work with us as the local leader of the NHS.”

To involve local people in shaping future health services, NHS HMR is currently carrying out a Borough-wide public consultation called ‘Speak Up. It’s your health’. NHS HMR receives more than £330 million from the Government to buy local health services and is looking how best to use this money to improve the health and well-being of everyone in the Borough.

People registered with a GP in the area will receive a copy of the information booklet and questionnaire through the post. Others can take part by visiting the Speak Up Now website. There will also be a number of events in September and October to allow people to have their say, details of which will be featured on the consultation website.
