RoFTRA is moving!

Date published: 22/08/2008

RoFTRA's Board  has taken the decision to relocate to currently vacant offices in the home of the Rochdale Centre of Diversity.

The move is said to be a vital element of the Board's determination to establish a sustainable foundation for its future work; it is also said ot have "exciting potential to strengthen the work of the borough's lively voluntary and community sector and makes a strong statement about and contribution to the delivery of the borough's recently launched Community Cohesion Strategy".

Initially prompted by the landlord's agent for the market site, in which RoFTRA has occupied one unit since 1998 as its central office and an adjacent one as a Resource Centre since 2002, for a 24% charges increase for a renewed lease, the move was said to be further stimulated by the recogniton that it would:

  • Reduce RoFTRA's premises' overheads costs to a quarter of the landlord's required level
  • Keep RoFTRA's premises payments within the voluntary and community sector
  • Other savings should result through the development of shared central services
  • Together, RoFTRA and RCD have member organisations within all the borough's 22 communities identified as the borough's most deprived by its Neighbourhood Rernewal Strategy
  • Together, the two organisations are stronger - and can achieve more - than each separately: the value added element should be very significant
  • The moving together makes a strong statement about both organisations' role in the delivery of the borough's Community Cohension Strategy
