Have your say on how local money is spent!
Date published: 07/12/2007
People in Rochdale are being given the chance to decide how to spend almost £20,000 of council funds. Small projects within each of the nine wards in the town will benefit from up to £2,000 each - but the council needs to hear from local people with ideas on what those projects should be.
Suggestions need to be in by 31 December 2007 and the funds will be spent before the end of March 2008. In most cases, members of the Area Forum in each ward will consider the proposals put forward and decide where to spend the money. Residents who've never been to a local forum are being encouraged to come along and have their say, as well as get involved in shaping the future of their neighbourhood.
Chair of the Rochdale Township, Cllr Elwyn Watkins, said: "This is part of our commitment to devolved decision making. We want local people in Rochdale to help decide what money is spent on to improve their community. It could be anything from an environmental project like a planting scheme, to putting in some benches at a popular spot."
If you have a suggestion for what the money could be spent on in your ward, or to find out when the next forum is in your area, please contact the Rochdale Township office on 01706 924858 or 924908.
