Man charged following shock motorway smash

A man has been charged with death by dangerous driving after Gary Proctor and his son James, both from Wakefield, were killed in a crash on the M62 just outside Rochdale.

Imran Hussain, 31, from Bradford, was charged yesterday (Monday 4 August) with causing death by dangerous driving, driving while under the influence of alcohol and making threats to kill.

He is due to appear before Rochdale Magistrates' Court today (Tuesday 5 August).

47-year-old Gary Proctor and his son James, 16, were critically injured in the collision, which happened just before 6am on the M62 westbound on Sunday (3 August).

They had just passed Birch Services in their Fiat Punto when their car was in collision with an Audi Quattro driven by Mr Hussain.

They were taken to hospital by ambulance but their injuries were too severe to save them and they were pronounced dead a short time later.

Gary's wife and James' mum Catherine, 44, was also seriously injured in the collision. She is currently in a stable condition in hospital being treated for broken ribs and a broken arm.
