ImagEngine celebrates becoming a co-op with Touchstone's exhibition
Date published: 29/04/2006
Off-shoots is the latest exhibition from Rochdale artists, ImagEngine. It celebrates their recent registration as a co-operative in Rochdale, the birthplace of the co-operative movement. Off-Shoots is in Gallery One at Touchstones, Rochdale from 6 May until 18 June.
The artwork is developed from Secret Gardens, the group's very well-received 2004 exhibition inspired by Rochdale gardens and gardeners.
Collaborative artworks reflect artists commitment to co-operation
Off-Shoots features several collaborative artworks, a reflection of the co-operative spirit. For one of these all five artists have made six foot hangings using text as image, with words spoken by Rochdale people about their gardens. Another collaborative piece is 'Print Wall', for which the artists have produced prints based on a textile installation called 'Hanging Gardens' which intrigued viewers during the Secret Gardens exhibition. The third collaborative artwork is called 'Melt' and is made from recycled materials. It was recently selected from a national submission for an exhibition called 'Re-worked' at Washington Gallery, Cardiff.
Artists fascinated with gardens, growth and organic forms
Off-Shoots features individual artwork by all the artists in a variety of 2D and 3D materials: drawing, painting, collage and sculpture. Louise Day (ImagEngine artist) explained: “We all share a fascination with gardens, growth and organic forms.”
The exhibition is open Mon-Fri 10.00-5.30 and Sat and Sun 11.00-4.00. Touchstones 01706 864986.
