Union response to Chief Executive’s early retirement
Date published: 05/04/2006
The Trade Unions at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust reacted to the news of Chief Executive Chris Appleby’s early retirement next month.
Pete Hinchliffe, Trade Union Convenor at the Trust said, “Whatever our criticisms or Mr Appleby and his Board following the vote of no confidence last year, he has worked hard and with great dignity to try to address many of the issues raised in the Alberti-Durose Report. We wish him well for the future.”
“We know that staff and others will be concerned at the size of the retirement package particularly in the wake of announcements by the Department of Health regarding the savage cuts in funding that are in the pipeline for all acute trusts. Perhaps this is something that the MP’s who have been pressing for the removal of Mr Appleby and the former Chairman Steven Price following the publication of the report may wish to reflect upon.”
