Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service wins prestigious safety award

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has been awarded a prestigious safety award for Occupational Health and Safety by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.

The Public Service and Local Government Industrial Sector Award 2006 is one of a number of sector awards presented to organisations judged to have provided evidence of outstanding performance in Health and Safety.

To be considered for the award the service had to submit detailed evidence of its Health and Safety procedures and practices and was judged against local authority entrants from across the UK.

David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager said “Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have demonstrated how seriously they take health and safety management and are a fine example to many other companies. We would like to see more organisations following their lead by providing a positive example”.

County Fire Officer Barry Dixon said, “Health and Safety is a fundamental part of the way we operate as a modern Fire and Rescue Service.  We are extremely happy to receive this award which is national recognition of the Service’s exemplary commitment to achieving the highest standards in safety performance”.
