Milkstone Action Group and Excellence in Education for all project

Milkstone Action Group and Excellence in Education for all project, jointly organised the celebrations of Eid / Christmas and Awareness of disability amongst the Asian community. Councillor Allen Brett, Leader of the Rochdale Council, Councillor Paul Rowen MP, Councillor Mohammad Sharif and former Mayor of Rochdale, Sultan Ali were amongst the 60 attendees.
Ghulam Rasul Shahzad, Chairman, welcomed everyone to the meeting. He gave a brief background and contributions made by Milkstone Action Group and the Excellence of Education for all project. He said: "it was about twelve years ago when the Milkstone Action Group was set up. So far it has successfully solved various problems in the area including drug dealing, prostitution and anti social behaviour. The Excellence in Education for All Project has been organising free Saturday classes in English, Mathematics and science for children who have achieved better grades in school. Some of the children were from overseas countries and have recently joined the schools in Rochdale. They were also attending the Saturday classes."
He added: "everyone in the organisation is an unpaid volunteer, giving their time freely and treating every child as their own."
He expressed particular appreciation of the contribution of Parveen Kosur, Vice Chairwoman, and Naheed Ibrahim, Treasurer of the Excellence in Education for all Project and said they were the driving force behind these classes for children.
Councillor Allen Brett, Leader of the Council, Councillor Paul Rowen, MP, Councillor Mohammad Sharif and former Mayor of Rochdale - Sultan Ali all expressed appreciation of the work done and their support of both organisations and cllaed on the people of Rochdale to support their good work.
Joy Gerber, Chair of RADDAG , provided the background of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, and explained the meaning of 'the Medical Model', the 'Social Model' and the 'Reasonsable Adjustments' required under the Act. She said: "I was very pleased to be invited to an event with a very useful purpose - community cohesion and bringing faiths and people together to learn about disability and its related issues."
