Council Grant for Early Learners

Date published: 06/09/2005

A free Early Education information pack for all three and four year old children within the borough is now available in Rochdale. The pack includes information on how children can claim their Education Grant which entitles them to five two hour sessions each week in a registered childcare setting. Settings that qualify for the grant include: Local Authority Nurseries, Private Day Nurseries, Pre-school and Playgroups, Independent Schools and Network Childminders.

The Nursery Education Grant is provided by the Government under their ‘early years programme’ and aims to encourage the all round development of children and help them work towards the Early Learning Goals.

There are many benefits children gain from education such as; increased confidence, learning to co-operate with others, having opportunities to try new ideas, problem solving and making choices.

Children become eligible for the Nursery Education Grant in the term after their third birthday (subject to the Authority’s qualifying dates).

To request an information pack on the Early Education Grant parents/carers can call the Childcare Information & Recruitment Service on tel. 01706 719900 or email childcare.info@rochdale.gov.uk.
