Carnival Season Begins at Norden
Date published: 13/06/2005
Carnival season has officially started in Rochdale this week, and Norden carnival was the first as hundreds of people took to the streets to join in the fun on Saturday 11 June.
Fronting the parade was Norden Pipe Band, followed by members of St. Martins Church Brigade, Whittaker Moss School all dressed as the Queen of Hearts, St Paul’s Ladybirds, Oldham and District Mini Club, and of course carnival queens from around the town.
Mayor of Rochdale Ashley Dearnley and Mayoress Beryl Wright walked with the carnival from Whittaker Moss School, through the centre of Norden and up to the community school, where there was a fun fair and activities throughout the afternoon.
Organiser John Anderton, who is also the chairman of Castleton Carnival said, “It’s been a fantastic turnout today, there’s an impressive crowd of people on the streets to watch the parade. It’s really good to see so many people involved.”
I’m really looking forward to Castleton Carnival on Sunday 24 July too, if the turnout is like today it will be excellent.”
Castleton Carnival will start at Chesham Avenue, and will march down Manchester Road, left onto Bolton Road and up into Springfield Park.
