Whip Round Family Show Off Their Holiday Snaps

Members of the Rochdale Online Message Board had a 'whip round' to help send a Rochdale family on holiday to Orlando. The Stott family returned this week with some excellent holiday snaps to show us!

The family had lost their father only a short while ago, and so a Rochdale Online Message Board user, Charly, kindly nominated them to win a holiday with a leading travel company for a break. Unfortunately, this only brought complications with finances and extra requirements for one of the children, who has cerebral palsy.

It began to look like the holiday wasn’t possible, when Councillor Jean Ashworth, who knows them well, brought them to the attention of Rochdale Online Message Board members, and one of the members came up with the idea for a whip round to try and help out.

Many people gave generously, resulting in a £540 collection.

At the time, Councillor Jean Ashworth was relieved to hear that they could still have their holiday: “This family really deserve to go on holiday.” She said. “Charly has unselfishly supported this family for years and more so since their daddy died quite recent and sudden. I’m really happy for all of them.”

Charly expressed her happiness after the family returned: “I think the Rochdale Online members are a brilliant crowd who are very generous, they enabled us to go along to give Julie a hand with the boys."

"I think the whip round was a success because everyone knew how important this trip was for all the family not only Peter, as they have all been through a very sad time recently and are having to get to grips with a whole new scenario, as teenage boys growing up without their dad."

"We spent a day at Sea World and Peter got to see the dolphins close up but unfortunately could not swim with them as this has to be arranged some time in advance, but it was a really good experience for all of us, so thank you!”
