Stationery That’s Going Places

Date published: 13/07/2004

Louise Jeffery, from Norden has always loved painting. She went back to study textile design as a mature student 6 years ago, and following her degree worked at Hallmark Cards as an Assistant Design Manager, firstly creating and selecting cards for Valentines and other special days and then moving on to stationery products and notebooks.

Long hours travelling to Bradford every day though, for little money, made Louise think she could do better herself selling hand-made greeting cards. Her first port of call was at Inbiz, where she was unable to gain funding. She then considered the NES scheme but was ineligible. During a chat about the NES with Jane Glaysher-White, she learned about the Women into Enterprise scheme, which she credits with really getting her business going. “I received marketing advice from Barbara Shaw and tremendous help with my business plan from Barbara Davidson which allowed me to secure £1k funding.

I have initially sold my cards mainly to family and friends, but now I can buy more materials, I am looking to expand”. To contact Louise who trades under the name “Louby”, call 526532. Louise’s exquisite cards can be tailored to your personal requirements. Also, Louise has a painting in gouache and acrylic on display currently at Touchstones.
