Employing disabled people - guide for businesses on offer

Businesses across Rochdale borough who either have disabled employees, or need to know their responsibilities on the subject can find the answers in a new Employers' Guide, published by Rochdale Council.

The guide aims to dispel the myths about employing disabled people and the Disability Discrimination Act. Businesses can check their responsibilities and find out the benefits of employing disabled people.

Employers are taken step-by step through the recruitment process, giving them everything they need to know. The guide also provides information on how companies can get funding to help to accommodate disabled employees.

Cabinet Member for Corporate Management, Councillor Keith Swift said: "Disabled people are an untapped pool of talent. Employing disabled people has many advantages for businesses, and makes good business sense.

"We are certain that the guide will prove to be a really useful document, setting out what is good practice and how employers can get support."

The guide is available free to any company in the borough. To get your copy, contact the Joint Investment Plan Team at Rochdale Council on (01706) 925925, or email carrie.heaton@rochdale.gov.uk
